The best theories that relate to my popular culture topic
“How recreational drugs are portrayed in the media” that I came across are just
a couple. First theory is the media portrays homosexuals as more apt to
recreational drugs. Second is the media portrays drug addicts as normal people
with bad habits. It is the portrayal of people that the media seems to target
that grabs my interest on these theories I thought best.
The most interesting findings from my analysis was the
media’s opinions about recreational drugs and how the
media perceives which type of people are more apt to use and why. The
media portrays homosexuals as weak minded and unable to handle their sexual
orientations and pressures. It couldn’t be farther from the truth.
Another interesting theory I found was how the media portrays drug addicts
as normal people with bad habits. The media influences and creates people into
heroes and celebrities that are recreational drug users. It is a scary thought
to see that young people think this is the norm in society.
I see that the media is
out for a story and innocent people are the victims of their imagination and
theories. I will see the media differently but not the pop culture itself. I
see the pop culture through my eyes and not the media’s eyes.
